Terms & Conditions / Privacy

Welcome to Skype School of Language to you as a teacher of languages.

The following are the terms and conditions/ privacy for teachers using the Skype School of Language website (the ‘Website’).

Your custom is important to us.  All personal data is stored for the use of handling orders/lesson bookings only and will never be passed on to third parties.

Thank you for your interest in joining us to teach on Skype School of Language.

Our aim is to provide the best teachers to help language learners all over the world.

You will be required to complete an application form and if that is approved we will make a time to have a Skype interview with you so that we can meet each and answer each other’s questions we may have.

We ask you to complete an online application form  regarding your qualifications, spoken languages, preferred teaching language(s) and contact details.

We will also ask you to email your qualifications (verified copies of certificates) and a copy of  your local police clearance using our contact form.   (This is standard practice for most good educational schools and a must for teaching young learners under 18 years old.)

We will contact you to let you know if your application and documents have been approved or not (or what you need to do to be accepted.)

This will be an informal short Skype call for us to meet each other.  It will be set at a time convenient to you and us.   It will be an opportunity for you and us to ask any other questions we may have.  We will contact you to organise this when your application form is approved.

You will be able to work your own hours and set your own amount of teaching hours.

There is no maximum or minimum number of hours you are required to teach.

You will have your own profile/web page within Skype School of Language to advertise yourself and your teaching skills.

We strongly advise you to make a video of yourself  so that potential learners can see who you are and listen to why and how you will be able to help them to learn their chosen language.

You set your own student lesson plans according to the needs of the students. (You will be advised how to do this during your Skype interview).

There are no age limits for teachers or students, however, if a student enrols with you and they are under 18 yrs old (or under the adult age limit of your or their country) it is important to get their parental or guardian consent.

We are aware that there are teachers and learners from all over the world and that each country has its own minimum and maximum wages.  With this in mind, it is up to you to set your own  lesson prices  You can also offer reduced rates for more than one lesson if you wish.

Your first lesson is booked on Skype School of Language on our first lesson booking calendar.  This time will be pending your acceptance of the time and confirmation with the student.

Future lesson times will be agreed between you and your student. You will be responsible for booking your lessons with the students on your own calendar system.   If you wish to add your preferred booking calendar (for example ‘google calendar’) to your SSOL teaching page you will need to send us your calendar link so we can add it onto your page.  You will be responsible for keeping this calendar up to date.

Students pay via Skype School of Language for the first lesson.  Subsequent lessons are paid directly to you.

One hour, allowing at least 15 minutes before and after for breaks/preparation time.  You may also need to allow for extra preparation time depending on the needs of the students and your own resources and experience.  (More experienced teachers will be able to prepare for lessons faster and will have more resources.  We will also recommend quality optional resources to you.

All first lesson bookings are subject to your availability and will remain ‘pending’ until you confirm the time with the students.   A  student may wish to book a free 20 minute trial lesson with you.  We advise you to offer this to the student as you may have a higher chance of securing lessons with them.

Future Lessons will be booked on your own Skype School of Language profile page  at a time to suit you and your student.   (Please note the Teacher Termination section below.)

Students must give at least 12 hours notice to cancel or change a time.

A cancellation or time change with less than 12 hours notice will not be refunded to the student and you will get the full amount of your hourly rate (less the administration charges).

A time change before 12 hours notice will be at the agreement of you and your student.  If a suitable time for both parties cannot be found the student can take a lesson with another teacher, if they wish, or get a full refund.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your username/account number and/or password. You are responsible for all uses of your account, whether or not actually or expressly authorized by you.

You can recommend any resources you think best for the language you are teaching.  If you are using your own personal resources then you will be responsible for your own copyright and that of the source you are using.  (You will need to check your own country’s copyright laws to make sure you are complying fully with any resources you use in your teaching lessons.)  We will also help you with good resources recommendations.

We charge administration fees as we need to cover the costs of bank charges, website fees and  technical support.   This can  be very costly if you were to set up your own website.  Joining Skype School of Language will save you time money and energy and let you concentrate on your teaching.

You are responsible for paying your own taxes to your own local governments.  We do not deduct any taxes or any other charges other than administration fees to maintain your Skype School of Language profile/web page.

You can end your teaching service with us any time you wish.   We will need 30 days notice to delete your profile page which may be deleted anytime within those 30 days.

We reserve the right to instantly delete your profile page if:

A student has a valid complaint about you or your teaching.  You will have access to any complaint made and every opportunity will be given for both you and your student to come to an agreement before any termination is made

We reserve the right to instantly block a student if

You have a valid complaint about your student’s behaviour.   Your will have access to any complaint made and every opportunity will be given for both you and your student to come to an agreement before any blocking of accounts is made.  However if the behaviour is abusive in any way they will be instantly blocked.
